European Union – Africa Business Forum : new initiatives for entrepreneurship in Africa
Prior to the 5th edition of the African Union–European Union Summit, the European Commission and the African Union organised the 6th EU – Africa Business Forum (EABF) in Abidjan, on 27 November.
In partnership with MEDEF, this high-level business momentum between Africa and the European Union was the occasion to shed the light on new concrete actions that advocating the development of entrepreneurship in Africa.
The EABF was also the occasion to highlight the success stories of great African entrepreneurs through the Business Africa Entrepreneur Awards ceremony, in partnership with Choiseul Institute. The Business Africa Entrepreneur Awards aim to illustrate the success stories of business in Africa and to spread the taste of entrepreneurship. They reward the entrepreneurial success of African personalities who have succeeded on the African continent and internationally. The prizes are granted by an exclusive jury made up of presidents of employers’ organizations and personalities committed in entrepreneurship.
For this second edition, Ken Etete, the Nigerian CEO of Century Group, won the Business Africa Entrepreneur of the year 2017 Award. As for Verone Mankou, the Congolese CEO of the VMK, who received the price of young entrepreneur of the year.
In Abidjan, AGYP Powered by MEDEF and its partners have officially launched the Stars in Africa dynamic with the endorsement of the European Commission’s platform “sustainable business for Africa” (SB4A) for the next three years.
Following Paris in 2016 and Bamako in 2017, Stars in Africa is the next grand business meeting on youth and entrepreneurship and will be held in Nairobi, Kenya, the 6 and 7 March 2018. Stars in Africa gathers, aggregates and accelerates already existing actions such as meetings of employers federations from Africa and Europe, connecting companies of these organizations networks, UP40 index of fast-growing companies in Africa, Business Africa Awards with Choiseul Institute, coordination of actors from business ecosystems. To which are added elements to strengthen and make the event even more impactful (Stars in Africa annual report by KPMG, integrating actors of the training field, Stars in Africa awards to reward young project holders, marketplace…)
Stars in Africa brings an outstanding view on entrepreneurship and youth by federating well-known in the field actors and network.
